Logging Manager

Working as Chilton's Logging Manager my top priority is quality to our customers--whether it is with a small family tree farm or large industrial operation. I spend my days ensuring that all operations are running safely, efficiently and up to forestry standards. An aspect of my duties that I enjoy the most is optimizing the sales and flow of our products.

Being in the industry for over 40 years I have seen almost every method of logging imaginable. With that being said I have been forced to adapt my own skills and knowledge in order to stay relevant. Starting out cutting blow down after the Mount St. Helens eruption this led to a lifelong career cutting timber and often as crewboss. When I came to Chilton Logging in 2001 they offered me a position running the cutting operations, which led me to lean more on my managerial skills. I have been here for 25 years because the ethics of the company run parallel to my own personal standards.

Relaxing is not my strongest skill, so you can find me fly fishing in the mountains, running my land clearing side business, teasing my grandkids, or napping.

Land Use Planning and Development

My professional career began over 30 years ago, about the same time I first met Craig and Robin, and as Chilton Inc. was first venturing into the world of land development.  Upon graduating from Western Washington University with a degree in Urban and Regional Planning, I accepted the position of Associate Planner with Skamania County and then advanced to Community Planner for Cowlitz County, more recently holding the position of Planning Manager.  However, my time in the public realm, although invaluable, has been purposely limited as my best work continues to be demonstrated through quantifiable results in project conception and completion.   As such, I have devoted the bulk of my career to private industry and have been instrumental in all phases of development ranging from individual lots to master planned communities, including feasibility and acquisition, site design, entitlement, environmental compliance, and construction management.

I joined the team at Chilton Inc. as Development Manager in 2024 with the utmost determination to further their proven record of delivery of promises, products, and services.  I love what I do but when I’m away, you’ll find me with my wife, Molly, with family and friends, maybe in the city, maybe in the woods, and hopefully watching the Seahawks.

As the HR and Dispatcher at Chilton Inc., I manage human resources and coordinate dispatch operations. I came to Chilton with 30 years in the Transportation industry.  I am thankful the Chilton family brought me on to their team to expand my knowledge of the industry. I grew up in Forest Grove, Oregon on a Christmas tree farm. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family, getting outdoors, and escape rooms.

Controller / Office Manager

I am the Controller and Office Manager for Chilton Logging, where I manage the office and handle all accounting tasks, including payables, receivables, payroll, payroll taxes, and log accounting. Additionally, I assist Craig with a variety of other tasks as needed. Growing up in Woodland, Washington, I have known Craig since grade school. We attended Woodland Schools from 1st grade through graduation. When Chilton Logging needed a bookkeeper, Craig was persistent in trying to hire me, despite having my own business. Initially committing to one day per week, I gradually increased my time and eventually closed my business to work solely for Chilton Logging—a decision I consider one of the best I've ever made. I've proudly worked here for 24 years. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, hosting extravagant tea parties, and shopping at antique stores for the perfect find.

About Us

Addressing all harvesting needs.

Chilton Logging Inc. is a family business owned and operated by Craig and Robin Chilton in Woodland, Washington. Craig has 40 years of experience working in logging business. They are also privileged to have their son Josh who as a part owner and manager works alongside them.

Craig is the fourth generation in a family that has made its living in the Timber Industry. Two of Craig’s great grandfathers began their logging careers utilizing the earliest in logging technology…a team of horses and a steam donkey.

We currently have approximately eighty employees. They are highly skilled to offer an exceptional level of service. Due to the hazardous conditions that can occur on logging sites, safety is the utmost priority for our employees. Second is our commitment to excellence in the quality of work that we provide. Our goal is to help the Land Owner manage their timber stand to reach its optimum potential and to receive the maximum value for their investment at the time of harvest. We can help determine the feasibility for pre-commercial thinning, as well as identify and protect the RMZ’s that are located around streams and wetlands. We are also able to assist in post-harvest replanting. Chilton logging has foresters on staff that can assist the land owner through all stages of forest management.
